Integrantes do Ministério Público Federal (MPF), do Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico do Estado (Iphae), da Secretaria de Cultura do Rio Grande e da Portos RS estiveram, na manhã de quarta-feira, 20, visitando a Pedreira Cerro do Estado, em Capão do Leão,  com a finalidade de conhecer o resultado da obra de recuperação do telhado do galpão da marcenaria e o contexto geral do local.

Foi realizada uma vistoria nos pontos de valor histórico na área da pedreira e debatido o potencial da transformação de parte do estabelecimento em um parque histórico-cultural ferroviário, que contará a história da construção dos Molhes da Barra do Rio Grande, aberto ao público. Os visitantes concordaram que o potencial é muito grande e que trará benefícios importantes para a educação patrimonial, a visitação orientada, o ecoturismo e a sustentabilidade da região. A pedreira de Capão do Leão foi a fornecedora das pedras que foram utilizadas na construção dos Molhes da Barra entre 1910 e 1915. Também foi de lá que saíram as pedras que proporcionaram a ampliação dos Molhes ocorrido em 2010. 

Participaram da visita a procuradora da república, Anelise Becker, o diretor do Iphae, Renato Savoldi, a secretária adjunta de cultura do Rio Grande, Valeska Athaídes, o diretor de qualidade, saúde, meio e segurança da Portos RS, Henrique Ilha, o gestor do Setor Especializado em Segurança e Medicina do Trabalho (Sesmt), e o encarregado-geral da pedreira, Jairo Costa.
